O-Dynamic Games

2004-2006 · Entrepreneur

The ApartGame console started as a graduation project. This is what happened when we set out to turn it into a product, at the New Entertainment department we set up inside JVH Gaming with Roel Creemers.

Without feigned modesty, it is a true eye-catcher everywhere, and people enjoy playing it, from conferences, resorts and exhibitions to lounge bars. For more than a year and a half we had an opportune period to develop the ApartGame into an improved, more robust prototype with fine-tuned gameplay, aimed at the catering industry and fitted with a coin slot. From ApartSpel and ApartGame Console to O-dynamic games, or O-game for short.

What we were selling

O-dynamic games combine the sensation of today’s computer game and the good old family fun of a classic board game. This unique combination challenges the users physically while it creates a social environment that brings friends and family together. The inviting large round shape and ease of navigation encourage players to actively move around the game console while trying to push the right buttons. This challenges the focus and physical ability of even the most seasoned player. This one-of-a-kind game console allows people of all ages to be part of the action, regardless of their agility. A perfect game for young and old alike. The sturdy construction will hold up even during the liveliest competition.

O-dynamic games have been played and tested by a wide variety of people in many different environments and locations, demonstrating their flexibility. Originally designed and developed for an audience with physical challenges and underdeveloped motor skills, it was soon apparent that everybody enjoyed pushing the right buttons.

The product

The console is supplied with four games but can be expanded to a total of sixteen. Each game is designed to challenge the players: action and reaction games, mental and strategy games and much more. Depending on the game chosen, two to ten players can be accommodated. It ships with the necessary hardware and software. The console can be adjusted in width and equipped with a coin slot, to place it in different environments. Both the interface and the console itself can be customised to personal preferences.

The production specification, including the planned Standard and DLX line, is on the ApartGame console page.

Future directions

User studies and market research found remarkably positive results for a longstanding wish to put this machine on the market. At this point a successor with significant improvements, water resistance, more colours, easier maintenance, is looking for an investor. That would give the console greater flexibility across a wider range of locations, and make the games more interesting still.

Locations where we expect O-dynamic games to be at their best: concerts, events and theme parks, promotions, queues at stands, the catering and leisure industry, and therapeutic use.

Who built it

Roel Creemers and Dirk van de Mortel, with dhr. Hendrikx, and the employees of JVH Gaming who took it from prototype to production.
